Ask us a question
Established in 2017 by an experienced professional with 25 years of expertise in mainstream and SEN schools, SpeakWrite is dedicated to supporting children, schools, and families with speech, language, and communication (SLC) difficulties across Staffordshire and East Cheshire. We understand the challenges faced by school staff and parents when limited Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) services are available. Our mission is to bridge this gap, offering tailored interventions, assessments, training, and skills audits, all rooted in a deep understanding of psycholinguistics and language impairment. Explore how our specialist knowledge, gained from extensive training in areas like Colourful Semantics, Attention Autism, TEACCH, Cued Articulation, and Makaton, can make a significant difference to communication outcomes. Frequently asked questions
At SpeakWrite, we know you have questions, and we're here to provide clear, helpful answers. With our extensive experience supporting schools and families in Staffordshire and beyond, we've gathered the most common inquiries to ensure you have all the information you need. Our commitment is to improve speech, language, and communication, and this section is designed to guide you through our services and approach.
Can you provide a clinical diagnosis for my child?
As an educational consultant specialising in speech, language, and communication, SpeakWrite focuses on functional assessment and intervention strategies. We do not provide formal clinical diagnoses. For a clinical diagnosis, we recommend consulting with a medical professional or a qualified Speech and Language Therapist (SALT).
Do you provide an EHCP service?
SpeakWrite can contribute to the assessment and report writing aspects that inform an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We can assess a child's speech, language, and communication needs and provide recommendations for their EHCP, but we do not manage the EHCP application or legal process directly.
Can I arrange for you to see my child in their school?
Yes, we frequently work directly within school settings. This allows us to observe your child in their learning environment and collaborate effectively with school staff. Please contact us to discuss arrangements with your child's school.
Can I put my child's teacher in touch with you for advice on how to help my child in school?
Absolutely. We encourage collaboration between home, school, and SpeakWrite. We are happy to consult with teachers and provide strategies and advice tailored to your child's needs within the school context, with your consent.
Can you recommend assessment tools for our school?
Yes, with our extensive experience in educational settings, we can recommend a range of appropriate assessment tools for identifying and monitoring speech, language, and communication needs within your school.
Is your training CPD accredited?
Our training programmes are designed to meet high professional standards and provide valuable professional development. While not formally CPD accredited, we provide certificates of completion and ensure our content aligns with best practices in the field. Please inquire about specific training programmes for accreditation details.
What makes SpeakWrite a special or unique choice for schools and families compared to other options available?
SpeakWrite stands out due to our unique blend of extensive educational experience (20 years in mainstream and SEN schools) combined with academic qualifications (degree in Psycholinguistics, Post Grad Diploma in Language and Communication Impairment). This allows us to offer practical, school-focused solutions rooted in expert knowledge. We pride ourselves on our adaptability, personalised approach, and commitment to building capacity within schools and families, rather than just providing isolated interventions. Our background working with various trusts ensures we understand diverse educational contexts.
Can you refer my child to SALT?
While SpeakWrite cannot directly refer to NHS Speech and Language Therapy services, we can provide comprehensive reports on your child's communication needs which can support your own referral to local SALT services. We can also advise on private SALT options.
Do you have a waiting list?
Our availability can vary depending on current demand. We recommend getting in touch as soon as possible to discuss your needs and inquire about current waiting times. We always strive to accommodate new clients efficiently.
Are you DBS cleared?
Yes, all SpeakWrite professionals working with children and in schools hold up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks. Your child's safety and well-being are our top priority.
Do you have public liability insurance?
Yes, SpeakWrite holds comprehensive public and professional liability insurance to ensure peace of mind for all our clients and partners.
Can you describe the main ways you support children, schools, or families to improve speech, language, and communication?
SpeakWrite offers a multifaceted approach to improving speech, language, and communication. This includes direct one-to-one or small group interventions for children, comprehensive assessments to identify specific needs, bespoke training programmes for school staff and parents, and strategic consultancy for schools to embed effective SLC support throughout their curriculum. We utilise evidence-based strategies and well-known programmes like Colourful Semantics, Attention Autism, Word Aware, and Makaton.
If a school or family wants to work with you, what's the first thing they usually need to do, and what can they expect next?
The first step is to get in touch with us! You can reach us via our website contact form, email at speak.write@outlook.com, or by calling 07941865743. We'll then arrange an initial, no-obligation discussion to understand your specific needs, whether for a child, family, or school. Following this, we'll propose a tailored plan outlining recommended assessments, interventions, or training, along with a clear outline of next steps and associated costs.
